Configuring Wi-Fi Settings for NJCTR3000

The NJCTR3000 can be configured to operate in either Access Point (AP) mode or Client mode. The Wi-Fi settings are defined in a configuration file located on the SD card. The device can either create its own Wi-Fi network (AP mode) or connect to an existing Wi-Fi network (Client mode).

1. Wi-Fi Configuration File

The Wi-Fi settings are stored in a file named wifi_config.txt located in the /sd directory of the SD card. The configuration file contains the following parameters:

  • MODE: Defines whether the device is operating in Access Point or Client mode. Valid values are AP or CLIENT.
  • AP_SSID: The SSID (name) of the Wi-Fi network created by the device in AP mode.
  • AP_PASSWORD: The password for the Wi-Fi network created by the device in AP mode.
  • SSID: The SSID of the Wi-Fi network to connect to in Client mode.
  • PASSWORD: The password for the Wi-Fi network to connect to in Client mode.

Example Configuration:

MODE=CLIENT
SSID=MyHomeNetwork
PASSWORD=supersecretpassword
AP_SSID=NJCTR3000
AP_PASSWORD=prettyflyforawifi

2. Access Point Mode (AP Mode)

When the device is in AP mode, it creates a Wi-Fi network that other devices can connect to. This is useful for scenarios where you need to access the NJCTR3000’s web interface directly without needing an external Wi-Fi network.

  • Default AP SSID: KS_NJCTR
  • Default AP Password: prettyflyforawifi

How to Enable AP Mode:

  1. Set MODE=AP in the wifi_config.txt file.
  2. Provide values for AP_SSID and AP_PASSWORD.
MODE=AP
AP_SSID=CustomSSID
AP_PASSWORD=myapassword

When the device successfully connects to the network, it will display the SSID and IP address on the connected display.

3. Editing Wi-Fi Settings

The Wi-Fi settings for the NJCTR3000 are stored in the wifi_config.txt file, located on the SD card. You can configure the device to either act as a Wi-Fi access point (AP) or connect to an existing Wi-Fi network in client mode.

Configuring Wi-Fi Settings:

  1. Insert the SD card into your computer.
  2. Navigate to the wifi_config.txt file located in the root directory of the SD card.
  3. Edit the file to specify the following parameters:
    • MODE: Set this to either AP (Access Point) or CLIENT depending on how you want to use the device.
    • AP_SSID: If using AP mode, set this to the desired SSID for the device’s access point.
    • AP_PASSWORD: Set the password for the access point.
    • SSID: If using Client mode, specify the SSID of the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
    • PASSWORD: Set the password for the Wi-Fi network in Client mode.

Example Configuration:

For Access Point mode:

MODE=AP
AP_SSID=KS_NJCTR
AP_PASSWORD=prettyflyforawifi

For Client mode:

MODE=CLIENT
SSID=MyHomeWiFi
PASSWORD=mysecurepassword
  1. Once you’ve edited the settings, save the file, eject the SD card, and insert it back into the NJCTR3000.
  2. Restart the device to apply the new Wi-Fi settings.

4. Editing Wi-Fi Settings via Web Interface

The NJCTR3000 provides a web interface for adjusting Wi-Fi settings. You can access this interface by connecting to the NJCTR3000’s Wi-Fi network (AP mode) or by using the IP address shown on the display.

Access the Web Interface:

  1. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the NJCTR3000.
  2. Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings page by clicking the settings icon in the bottom right.

On the settings page, you can choose to operate in either AP or Client mode, and you can update the SSID and password accordingly. When you save settings the device will restart and start, or connect to, the configured network.

5. Connecting to Wi-Fi in Client Mode

In Client mode, the NJCTR3000 connects to an existing Wi-Fi network, allowing it to access the internet or communicate with other devices on the network.

Steps for Connecting:

  1. Open the wifi_config.txt file on the SD card and change the MODE to CLIENT.
  2. Set the desired SSID and PASSWORD of the Wi-Fi network you want the device to connect to.
  3. Save the file and restart the device.
  4. Upon reboot, the NJCTR3000 will attempt to connect to the specified Wi-Fi network. If successful, the IP address will be displayed.

If the device is unable to connect to the specified network, it will automatically fall back to AP mode.
